Normally when you order a replacement part it should work "perfect". I encountered a number of issues with this device. The main problem I had was that on initial installation I soon discovered that the holes where the bolts attach the new part to the body required threaded holes. But the sign says how many years the gearbox hasn't been threaded. So I had to visit two different hardware stores to find a set of 10 Dash 24 taps and dies and a handle to thread into the holes in the plate that holds the gear mechanism to the top of the garage door body. While two bolts fit the new hallways, the third, which is closest to the garage door and above the motor housing, couldn't cut through the book from underneath without removing the motor, which I didn't want to do. My solution was to drill another hole at the 1 o'clock position on top, small enough to eliminate the self-tapping metal screw to ensure it stays in place and doesn't turn, allowing for more room on the jacks leads. With the holes drilled in the right place and knocked out except for the mounting screws, I should have gotten the job done in under an hour. However, with two trips to the hardware store to buy an extra set of taps and dies needed to tap the screw holes, the job took over four hours. Also, the device was out of stock the day I ordered it and I had to wait two days for the order to be ready. be filled. And then when I went to install it, I first realized that there were no pre-tapped threads in the mounting screw holes. Since my garage door had been broken for two weeks now, I didn't want to spend time sending the part back, running to the UPS store, and spending even more time fixing my garage door. Overall, apart from the misalignment of the holes, the gears matched perfectly and in 4 1/2 hours I was able to complete what should have taken less than an hour. Although the shifter is less than $20, I value my free time and have wasted more of it than if I had ever hired a commercial service to fix it. So if you do decide to buy this part, open it up right away and wait for the holes to be threaded before you gather all your tools, take the ladder to the garage, install it on it, and then realize there are no threads are. Send it back promptly and save yourself the stress and hassle of buying a defective part.
