Bought this LCD monitor for use with multiple devices: analog was connected to a PowerMac G5; DVI was connected to my Dell laptop. Everything seemed to be working as planned until I rebooted my laptop (dual boot configuration on Linux) and the DVI on the monitor went blank. Note that this happened in the BIOS long before the OS choice was made - in other words, it wasn't a Linux issue. Did some basic troubleshooting of cables, connectors, etc. Everything was in order. I had to restart the box several times to get it working again on Windows. However, DVI does not work under Linux at all. After searching the web, I found that this monitor has DVI issues related to a number of things, apparently including NVidia video adapters. There are a number of clumsy and complicated steps to follow while downloading. Most of the complaints come from Windows users, so it is not an OS issue. I tried calling Viewsonic and gave up after being parked on standby for about 20 minutes. Their website was useless too. Viewsonic's support has been zero so far. I decided it was a DVI/Video adapter problem as various websites suggested and swapped the DVI/Analog connections between the devices. The laptop now works consistently (under analog) and even Linux shows up. Now my task was to get a monitor with unusual modes and frequencies that will work under RedHat. About halfway through my next degree, I was wondering if this new product was worth the effort. Answer? no I put the device in the original packaging and it went back. Now I'm looking for another working monitor. It will most likely not be Viewsonic as it is willing to continue distributing hardware with known bugs. My money goes to companies that provide good products and support. It's a shame because I've had a lot of Viewsonic hardware in the past that worked great and when I had a question a helpful person answered the phone. Good. The times have changed.
