Review on AO Smith Whole Salt Free Descaler by James Roper

I finally managed to install this plumber on my water softener circuit. I had an 8 year old (another MFR) that I recently removed and decided I NEED a chlorine filter. My old one was about 4ft and I wasn't sure I needed to replace him but after 8 years I felt like he should. I washed it off with a garden hose and the water was clear in less than 10 minutes so it was easy. What took me so long to install this was actually the plumber I used. I had it at home to soften the water and then to remove the old chlorine filter again. After BOTH visits, my water tasted and smelled like acetone for about 3 days, even after rinsing for over an hour. Okay, I'm going to tell you WHY this happened. The original plumber was in a hurry and didn't let the PVC primer/glue dry completely before turning the water back on! Got a new plumber who waited about 45 minutes for the water to dry. There is no smell or taste in the water! If you do it yourself or hire someone, make sure you allow more than enough time for it to fully set and dry. If your water smells or tastes like acetone, the drying/curing time was insufficient. And in my case 15-20 minutes wasn't enough but 45 minutes worked fine. If you smell/taste acetone after turning on the water, you can only wait about 2-3 full days. What struck me about this filter is that it is made by the same manufacturer that makes Aquasana filters. How do I know? It was on the invoice from MFR to Revine, then Revine to me (there were 2 labels on the box) These precision filters are also sold at the bottom here for the same price but with no lugging and lugging you can save sales tax by ordering online. I thought they were a lot heavier than they actually are so I ordered from here. It works well, I don't smell chlorine in any of the faucets in the house. I also installed a pre-filter (also an AO blacksmith) which I picked up locally and placed in front of this carbon filter to remove any sediment and rust particles from the city water. Yes, city water has it, and after a day you can see that the pre-filter is no longer white. After 3 days the pre-filter turns bright orange and I have NEVER had a visible rust problem in my house. Now I know why my salt filter turned slightly orange after a month! rust in the water. AFTER the charcoal filter is my salt water softener. I will definitely buy this filter again in 6 years when it is time to replace it. Great filter, great price, Revain convenience and customer service when you need it.
