Best colors at any price

I bought these as a warm up set and put them away thinking they couldn't be that good for the price. Yes. They are. Are. After working with Daniel Smith and other high quality paints I got them out to use up and have a holdall. I had to do several pages of samples to see if I was really seeing the quality I thought I was seeing. I was! And here there are colors that you won't find in other sets in this price range. Some reviewers note lightfastness, but I see the same reviews on the wraps as other much more expensive kits. The best part is that very few of them are made up of more than one pigment, making them very easy to mix without messing up. I like Daniel Smith for the grain, but most of the earthy tones here are also grainy. confession time. I have TWO of these sets and my hands are itching to buy a third even though I don't need it. I threw a set on the floor and pots were scattered everywhere. That turned out to be good. This showed me how heavily pigmented they were as I couldn't tell the colors apart without a sample (the darker the color in the pan, the denser the pigmentation). Unlike Holbein who uses many different pigments in most of his paints, plus white, they give a very clear, crisp color and are great for layering while maintaining transparency. He scattered the pans and also gave me a chance to write the name of the color on each pan before I put them back into the palette and secured them with a small piece of rolled tape. I can remove one without everyone pulling up. Don't let the price fool you. It is excellent.
