I definitely didn't expect such a high quality from a clothesline - the wire inside is light metal and very strong - looks like 18 gauge wire - reinforced with fiberglass strands - heavy white Plastic coating The wire is smooth and flexible. I used Anchor Wire clothesline to reline our worn out "umbrella" clothes dryer with a single pole, 4-way aluminum fold device. Made of plastic-coated wire, this clothesline is STRONG ENOUGH to pull one 50ft rope and LONG enough to pull two 50ft ropes. Some reviewers have expressed concerns about carcinogens in the wire's plastic coating. DO NOT WORRY ABOUT IT ! The cancer warning on the box should cover the coating of the wire inside the fiberglass inside the plastic cover. You can get cancer from this clothesline if you burn the whole roll of it and inhale all the smoke! Your chances of getting cancer from that clothesline are about the same as getting bitten by a shark while swimming off the beach in Kansas! fight cancer! Eat broccoli! Take that clothesline! My order arrived quickly and in perfect condition. UPDATE: August 6, 2017 - After 3 years in the Arizona desert sun, our clothesline still performs like new with no sagging, wear or deterioration.
