I have a DSLR and lenses that I use at other times, but unless I'm flying somewhere specifically to take photos, it's too much to carry around. This camera does a great job once you get the hang of it. Pros: - Small, fits in hand luggage, lightweight, feels good in hand - Good bright light images with very good color balance and moderate sharpness. - Very good optical zoom Disadvantages: Sometimes the light meter gives a wrong result, especially with backlight. Sometimes it is difficult to focus, especially at high magnification. Images quickly become grainy at high magnifications or in low light (not surprising for a lens of this size). - Some modes are missing, e.g. B. the aperture priority, which would be easy to achieve with additional firmware. Other: - It's difficult to see the rear display in bright light, but that's not unique to this camera. - Battery life could be better, but it's easy to fix, just buy some more batteries. I took a few hundred shots with it on my first trip, mostly outdoors in good light. I find the AE mode ("P") together with the automatic and the evaluating metering to be the best. I thought I'd miss the lack of aperture priority and shutter priority modes, but since it has a relatively small aperture range I'm not sure how much that would help. The results I got when viewing it on a computer were pretty good. The color balance seems to be very good and the sharpness is quite good. I read that other reviewers say the pictures are so bad they sent the camera back. I think that means they are too picky, have higher expectations than they should for this type of camera and/or don't know how to operate the camera. This doesn't mean that you'll always get the best results by just aiming and pressing the trigger. Learn how to better control focus for better results. I suggest using the smallest focus area, a single shot instead of continuous autofocus, and learning how to press the shutter button halfway to focus at the correct distance before shooting. Even DSLRs and high-end mirrorless cameras, if used incorrectly, will focus on the wrong subject (often the closest object in focus range). As an added benefit, using single-shot AF significantly extends battery life. If you're looking for a small, versatile camera that you can take with you to get decent shots, this is a solid choice. Edit: I've added a few examples of unaltered photos from a recent trip to show what the camera is capable of. Update 06/11/2021: This camera is a memory card killer. I kind of have 2 memory cards now, each 32GB "read block", and there is nothing to do with the cards except throw them in the trash. NO, this is not a switch on the map, checked and rechecked. Even low-level Linux disk management commands cannot reformat cards when in this state.
