Review on Quick Assembly Outdoor Digital HDTV ATSC TV DTV Antenna for UHF VHF FM by Rachel Johnson

ANI-24UV, A small antenna that

This 41" antenna replaced my old 161" antenna and seems to pick up the same number of channels. However, my old one had low frequency elements that were broken by crows landing on it. I wanted one with FM on so the crows wouldn't damage it. The elements on this one are larger in diameter and shorter in length, and the metal is thicker, so I'm sure they can handle crows. I have 132 channels and sub channels plus FM where my rotor is aimed, which is 5 more than the old big antenna that uses the same preamp in the attic about 20 coax feet from the antenna. The big one wasn't easy to take down, but this little antenna weighs only 3 pounds and has climbed like the wind 12 feet over my roof. Nothing to assemble, just lay out the 8 pieces that fold up for transport. They just snap. If you are curious about the picture, like me, then all is not so. The image shows a stray piece of flat metal closer to the center lying on top of the UHF element. This does not belong to a real antenna, but is even shown on the antenna body. The antenna is also shown upside down. The antenna connection is shown above, the larger elements below the square main tube. Of course, the antenna plug must point downwards so that no rain gets onto the coaxial plug. Therefore, large elements should be above the main square tube. (See user guide diagram, not available on Revain but not hard to find.) Others have pointed out difficulties connecting the coax cable to the antenna. The antenna comes with a rubber boot designed for installation on a coaxial connector and coaxial cable. This boot is a bit tricky to put on over coax, narrow end at the beginning so some lubrication may be needed. However, once installed you will find that the housing can act as a wrench to screw the coaxial threaded connector onto the antenna. although the antenna connection is well embedded in the weatherproof shell. This little antenna is robust and well designed both electronically and physically. It works well on upper VHF, FM and UHF despite its small size. (In the US, there are no longer any lower VHF digital TV signals.) Channel 7 is the only remaining VHF signal in my area, and the ANI-24UV has good reception. The only tool required is a wrench to tighten the supplied nuts on the two supplied U-bolts to secure the antenna to the mast tube, which is not supplied.
