Before using this filter I tried the K&N PS-7013 oil filter. The PS-7013 was slightly taller and the filter housing squeezed the filter slightly when fully tightened. However, this filter, HP-7013, fits perfectly and appears to be of much better quality than the PS-7013. It is made in Germany and showed no signs of wear after the extended drain interval (11.5k miles). As others have said it is at least as good if not better than Mazda's OEM filters. I will use that from now on. UPDATE 03/15/2014: After this filter was discontinued and the price increased significantly, I recommend trying the MAHLE Original OX 203D oil filter. The Mahle filter is very well made (in Austria) and can even surpass this K&N filter. It includes internal supports to prevent filter folding and has accurate K&N filter dimensions so you won't have trouble installing it. Mahle is the OEM filter brand for my MINI Cooper which is designed to use long drain synthetic oil. From now on I plan to use Mahle filters.
