When my daughter first started using this fan at camp we were sure it would help her cool down on hot days. It worked adequately for the first week or so. Not much to write about - the fan isn't powerful - but for the price it was acceptable. One afternoon, a few weeks later, my daughter came home with a soaked backpack. It quickly became clear that the source of the water was a fan that transported it inside. My first thought was that the fan cover was screwed on incorrectly, but further investigation revealed that the problem was in the design of the cover itself, which due to its cheap construction is inherently leaky (see photo). The cap of this fan uses the same anti-leak principle as the shampoo bottle. It has a simple coated paper disc which, in theory, should form a seal when pressed by the fan's threaded housing. In our case, this gasket allows for slow leakage when the fan is on its base, allowing water to enter the threads. I've tried changing the position of this seal in various ways to get the best result, but it just doesn't seem to work in our case. This is the only device we've used, so I can't say how often this problem occurs. However, I've seen other reviews complain about the leak as well, so I don't think it's a one-off manufacturing defect. Bottom line: I would avoid this bulky, leaky fan. It's not well designed and there are many better options out there. My guess is that if you're using the fan in an environment where leakage isn't a problem, it could still be useful, hence the 2-star rating. Pros: Inexpensive, fairly effective at shoeing, attractive color. Cons: Leaks through the cap, poor airflow. speed, uncomfortably high
