Review on πŸ”‘ Dorman 13607 Keyless Entry Transmitter Cover - Compatible with Ford / Lincoln / Mercury Models, Black by Balthazar Cooper

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The buttons protrude too far, making it easy to accidentally press them.

The housing is easy to swap out and fits my 2003 Focus ZX5 perfectly. I installed a fresh CR2032 battery while I was there. Contrary to other reviews, I believe that the case is not identical to the OEM if you look closely. For example, the key ring loop is actually thicker, which I'd consider a good thing. The bad news is that the blue and red trunk button and panic button protrude much higher on the Dorman unit compared to the OEM. I've attached a photo with the OEM in the foreground and the Dorman in the background. This makes it much easier to press them unintentionally. For example, if I place the key fob face down on a hard surface and press it, a button press will be registered and if I'm within range I'll either open the trunk or set off the alarm. The OEM buttons are slightly recessed to prevent this. If you carry your keys in your purse or similar it's probably not a problem at all, but if you carry them in your pocket having the trunk open while you're inside somewhere is quite inconvenient and a really big security and theft problem are. I keep the ignition key and this key fob together on the keychain and they're the only things on the ring. When I flipped the ignition key to face the buttons, it clicked reliably with every push of the button. I think I could just go back to the OEM case or maybe try the OEM rubber with it's worn labels in the Dorman case.
