Review on 🔧 Enhance Precision and Efficiency with the Kreg KJMICRODGB Jig Micro Drill Guide System in Black Polymer by Jason Bailey

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Weak on 1/2 " stock

I've been using the standard K4 mount for a while and really liked it. I had a project that needed a half inch Baltic Birch had to be connected, so I bought it specifically for this task. Although it is mentioned in the instructions, I will reiterate that you must set the drill collar to 5/8". I mentioned this because I thought I could set it up like a stock unit and didn't read the instructions first and it wouldn't work properly.don't repeat the same mistake!you need to adjust the pitch bit to go a bit lower.as far as I can tell this only applies to half inches -Material.Anyway, I read elsewhere that you need to set the clutch on your drill to 1 or 2 as Kreg only makes a fine thread shell which has an accessible screw be, and it's very, very easy to break threads. I can say they barely grab any material so it's not a very strong connection in my opinion. I had to add a few extra screws and even then I don't think it will last long. I also have a Dübelmax and for something like crates I would go that route to the Kreg mount. Much stronger results, IMO. I can see that for thicker stock smaller holes would be pretty good and claim to be almost as strong. I haven't seen any tests to the contrary, but at least that's what the ads say! I would say that if you only buy half inch stuff you might be disappointed. At the very least I'd say make sure you use a good quality adhesive, although end joints aren't usually heavy duty to begin with. I use Titebond III myself. Overall I'm really not impressed with the purpose I bought it for (1/2 inch). I think it would be fine for thicker material where you want a smaller hole, but I wouldn't buy it solely for half-inch material, something like dowels or biscuits would be much stronger.
