I have a very nice Japanese Myiabi knife, when I first bought it the knife was razor sharp, of course as I used the knife it became less sharp . like knives do. So I decided that since I had paid so much for this fine tool I would take it somewhere and have it professionally sharpened. Long story short, the culinary dude ruined the knife. I might as well cut everything with a butter knife. So I ordered this whetstone with 400/1000 grit and 3000/8000 grit. I also bought honing oil. After receiving the stones I read the instructions which said oil can be applied to the stone but water works better. I soak stones in water for at least 15 minutes before using them. My knife was badly damaged so my first knife took me about an hour on a 400 grit stone to create a new edge, then went to 1000, 3000, then 8000 to finish polishing the blade. I have to say I am very happy with the results and my knife is razor sharp again. The only thing I could add to this review is that you save money and don't buy honing oil because you don't need it. I have attached a photo of my knife, please note the large scratches on the body of the blade were from a hack that ruined the edge of the blade prior to my repair.
