Long story short I wanted the Thermoworks Thermapen MK4 but didn't want to spend more than $100 so I stopped and ordered the Lavatools Javelin Pro which turned out to be SHIT. I was about to give up and order the Thermpen and be done with it but saw that they were posting this as fake and ordered one. Then the Thermpen went on sale and I ordered one of them. So here I am with three good instant read thermometers. Maybe I can help someone decide. The TP-19 seems pretty well made, about on par with the Javelin Pro. It's not as premium as Thermapen, but costs four times as much. TP-19 seems to be lighter and the plastic is a bit cheaper than Thermapen. For example, the battery cover screws into the plastic while the Thermapen battery cover screws into the metal nut. The Javelin Pro's battery cover twists about a quarter and doesn't inspire much confidence (again, terrible waterproofing). AAA batteries (yes!) in the Thermapen and TP-19 and a 2032 button cell in the Javelin (gross). It opens and closes easily, turning on and off as you go. As for the difference in speed between the three devices, I can't tell what the difference is. All three are very fast and all three seem to be about equally accurate (I'm an amateur so they're pretty accurate to me). All displays are easy to read. The T-19 has a bright red LCD, like an old alarm clock. The other two use backlit LCD screens, with the Thermapen running automatically and the Javelin needing to be turned on. Javelin and TP-19 rotate in 2 directions (up or down), while Thermapen can rotate in 4 directions. The accelerometer in the TP-19 is a bit jerky. When you move it across the screen it can't always decide which direction it wants to point, which isn't a huge issue, but I noticed that in testing. The Javelin and TP-19 have built-in magnets that allow you to attach them to a fridge or other metal object, while the Thermapen doesn't. Thermapen and TP-19 claim to be fully IP-67 waterproof, while the Javelin is only waterproof (disputed). If you need a quick handheld thermometer, I think the Thermo Pro TP-19 is a great option. If you're looking to spend a little more on Thermapen for a higher quality device with a great company behind it, this is a great option too. Thermoworks is the NAME of thermometers and they are used in many professional kitchens around the world for a reason. My only real advice is to skip Lavatools Javelin Pro. At over $50, it offers nothing. Their customer service is useless and the device is not waterproof which is a big deal for me in a kitchen thermometer.
