Review on 🎢 Lauson Woodsound JTF535: Vintage Vinyl Record Player with Built-in Speakers, USB Connectivity, and RCA Line-Out - 3 Speed Belt-Driven Phonograph Turntable by Jeho Odor

OK for $40 but looks cheap, limited sound quality

What to expect from $40. The records are playing and the sound from the external speakers is fine. I bought it to play old records from the 1970's and it plays my old worn out records well. The audio is stereo and the headphones bypass the external speakers, showing that the sound quality is quite good. Some limitations are that the knobs, body and tonearm are made of poor quality plastic. Don't buy the player for the software: the software is free, Audacity. I've used Audacity off and on for the last ten years. If you just click "Record" at the beginning of the recording and "Stop" at the end of the recording, you can easily export the sound file to another format like .mp3 or .wav. But I've never been able to get Audacity's editing features to work consistently, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. Again, special software unique to the player is not included. But if you install the Audacity software from either the CD that came with it or from the Audacity website, and then connect the player with the standard USB cable that came with it, Audacity will recognize the player. I did this on a Mac running OS 10.13. PLEASE NOTE THAT AUDACITY WILL NOT WORK ON THE CURRENT MAC OS, SYSTEM 10.15. I think if you have a new Mac, you're out of luck. Mac OS did not automatically detect the player; It seems like you need the Audacity software. I've been thinking about buying one of the new remastered vinyl records but this turntable isn't of a high enough quality to justify such a purchase. I grew up in the 1970's so I've been using turntables and good quality turntables for decades. This player falls somewhere between a turntable and a cheap stereo player from the 1970s: good for playing old, worn records and digitizing them, but no more.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Some difficulties
