My last umbrella served me more than 5 years. The reason I replaced it was because the handle had become sticky and the silver color of the umbrella had faded. I decided to buy new. My new one lasted about 8 months and the knob somehow got stuck in a tilted position. I emailed the company and they explained how to get a replacement. Since the umbrella was less than a year old, buying a new one wasn't difficult. This is the best umbrella I've ever had. The only thing I would do differently would be to go up a size.
