UPDATE. After 2 months I'm still satisfied, but downgraded to 4.5 stars. As I can't and I still love the box I'm leaving it 5 for now. The box is holding up well except the tabs holding the lids in place broke off on one side of both boxes so I have to keep them , instead of bending over to clean, remove it completely. I believe this is because my cat has soft poop (he has health issues) so I often remove the lids to wash with soap and water. The tiny protrusions that act as the hinges that hold the lids in place aren't strong enough to be permanently removed from the boxes. Plastic can only be pressed until it breaks. Otherwise, this is the best box I've ever had. I just wish I could take the covers off and wash them more easily. And I miss the hinge mechanism. It was so nice to just open the box, pick it up quickly and put it all back together. If your cat has normal hard poop and doesn't walk on its feet all the time, you might love this box too. =/Original I have a look in the elevator. For example, my kitten starts to squat but when he pees his butt lifts up. That means he pees on all sides of the box and often completely out of the box. I discovered the top entry compartment about 10 years ago and it was a real find. He's about 15 pounds. and never misses the top entry field. A box with a lid is problematic because they usually have a seam between the box and the lid that needs to be glued with urine and washed out, so the box is completely disassembled several times a week. He also often manages to urinate directly into the door. He's a big boy so we've tried all but the smallest boxes (modcat) and this is my favorite. Second best is my first, Clever Cat, but this box is half the price and IMO improved with full bars on top. This box is definitely less durable than a Smart Cat and definitely won't last as long as a Smart Cat, but the price means I can afford to replace it more often which is more hygienic. The top of the Smart Cat is thicker and grooved to clean the cat's paws when it comes out of the box, but the collected pellets have to be poured back into the box - this box has a thinner top but it holds my huge cat perfect , and it's all like a subway grid, all particles falling from his paws fall into the box. So digging isn't about throwing debris all over the place. The top opens through a central cut, like French doors, and the doors fold down at the ends. They snap tightly and are difficult to remove when you need to wash the lid daily (like a sick cat), but normal daily scooping is easy and removing the lid weekly for cleaning is easy. And the BIG problem with the bottom ledges is that this box has smooth sides and smooth corners for easy scooping. WHY do manufacturers insist on molded sides or legs in cat houses? Wet litter just accumulates there and cannot be scooped up! Hooray! No problem here, I can't suggest any improvements for regular cats. I always wish my diarrhea prone cat had fewer nooks and crannies in the lid as I often have to take the lid off and wash it with soap and water because he steps on his poo (sorry tmi) but I would prefer if the grid stop. scatters dirt, and washing it out of the hose is not so difficult. Oh, and by the way, I paid full price and wasn't forced to write a review. I really just wanted to share it because I think this is a great product that was clearly designed with the care and attention of cat owners. Keep it up, Raven.
