I bought these spring compressors to replace struts on a 2008 Toyota 4Runner. They are simple and relatively easy to use. As I tightened them to compress the spring, I noticed that the threaded rods bowed inward toward the spring. Even when both sides were tightened evenly, they sagged inward. This is a bit annoying as there is a lot of energy stored in the spring and I was more than concerned about the consequences of the threaded rods failing/breaking. What helped was squeezing just a few rings of the spring. I think I lifted three rings on each side and while the bars were still bent it wasn't too bad. After releasing the tension, the threaded rods assumed their normal shape (they did not remain bent). The springs on the replaced struts were larger than the original ones and I couldn't get the spring locking mechanism to slide (because the spring was in the way), but they held no matter what. They did the job, but I think they're better for cars than trucks or truck-mounted SUVs.
