I think Freud is one of the highest quality bits and they were the only manufacturer I could find that offered a 1/4 wide bit, the 1+ 1./2 was inches long. But 1+1/2" is too long for such a thin piece. I tried two of these and they both broke immediately trying to use them. I have lots and lots of bits and do quite a bit of router work, so yes I do know how to use bits properly. I have been trying to remove slots in the 1+1/2" thick stop blocks I made for my table slide and although I drilled the slots with a drill press just under 1 /4 Pre-drilled and drilled a starting hole that was a full 1 /4 or more, too much lateral pressure on the bit trying to use it. Now I understand why none of the other manufacturers even try to offer bits of this size. it just doesn't work. I don't blame the manufacturer, I don't blame the quality of the bit. This size just doesn't work. I switched to another Freud tip, a 1/4 x 1 inch double flute, and simply threaded the tip through the slot, then flipped it over and fed it through the other side again. It works out. So. Don't waste your money or time trying to use this drill bit, use a shorter drill bit that can withstand lateral forces.
