Review on Garmin Mount Quick Release Quarter by Troy Gerhardt

DO NOT rely on rubber bands! They break easily.

I bought this mount as a cheap and quick mount for my Edge 500. Most of the other mounts that seemed stronger were really expensive so I decided against instinct to try this. The only positive thing I can say about this product is that while it works well with Edge devices and while Garmin includes two mounts and lots of different sized rubber bands for attachment, DO NOT rely on the rubber bands. Since there is already a lot of space on my handlebars, I decided to place the bracket around the handlebar stem. There are a couple of large straps that initially seemed solid, but one of them broke on my first install ride. I tried again with extra tape - on the next ride it broke again. Then I made room (uncomfortably) on top of the stems, thinking maybe I was just stretching them too much around the stem. This went on for a week before it broke again. I went for a walk and then hid the bike in the garage as usual. After a day or two in a hot garage, the strips seemed to pop on their own, leading me to suspect they are very sensitive to temperature changes, extreme heat or cold. and most motorcycles live in such conditions. So in conclusion I am extremely disappointed with the quality of the straps used to attach the mount. They must be made of quality materials that will not break under various conditions. I ended up spending $40 on a $40 K-Edge mount, frustrated with it.
