After over 20 years of continuous use, our 15 inch round pizza stone tragically and unexpectedly died. I was afraid to buy this one because the reviews have a strong chemical smell. I bought this size because we were sometimes limited in pizza size due to the size of our old stone. The new large rectangular stone goes well with our oven rack and offers plenty of space. There was no strong odor upon arrival. I wiped the stone down with a damp cloth and placed it in the oven while it warmed up, then baked two pizzas back-to-back on it. I dusted the surface with cornmeal both times, which kept the pizza from sticking. After cooling and wiping, there was still no chemical smell. I definitely have no hesitation in recommending this stone.
