Review on 🌌 Galaxy Night Light Projector with App Remote Control, Bluetooth Speaker, and Alexa Compatibility - Star Projector and Starry Mood Lamp for Christmas Bedroom Ceiling Decor - Ideal for Kids and Adults by Allison Carpenter

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Cool stuff and great controls from the manufacturer App (Smart Life) - Alexa not so much

Although I've never been north enough to see the real Northern Lights, it helps a lot create that I think they are or could be similar. Check out the attached video of how it works and notice that there is a silver and white ceiling fan running in the middle of the video adding extra depth/effect. Has multiple sound machine options (waves, crickets and storm) as well as some built in music (lullaby, technical but soft and classic) and is also a bluetooth speaker for your own music. The display can react to the music being played or be independent and in my experience independent was better but to each their own. There is a green laser with a reflector to simulate stars and they can turn on and off and disappear. Northern lights can have one to four colors: blue, green, red and white. While white made me think of clouds rather than Aurora Borealis, red was fine but not typically seen, so a combination of green and blue was the most accurate representation. Included (minus 2 AAA batteries) is a very complete remote control that controls all functions. I preferred to use the Smart Life app to manage it but both work well and again it's really your choice. The audio (either generated or via Bluetooth) is fine - it won't blast doors or be worth lossless file streaming. But for relaxing, turning on music, and enjoying that scene I want to see but never get, this device does the job perfectly. When no music is playing it's quiet and doesn't sound like a set of gears and a spinning engine unless it's close to your head. The Alexa app integration is problematic. I don't have Google Smart Home devices so I haven't tested if it's the same. So Alexa sees one device as four, and therefore controlling them in the app isn't fun. I'm sure you can tweak routines and automate various "aspects", but the native Smart Life app does the job well and I wouldn't worry about integrating with Alexa. One aspect that doesn't get built in is the ability to play music from Alexa when it's not connected to an Alexa device via Bluetooth. This isn't uncommon as you can't send Revain Prime Music to another device that isn't an Alexa connected speaker, but I wanted to clarify this as hoped. Pairing with an Echo Dot as the main speaker works and streams music. You can disable lighting effects, so it's a good compromise. I see a few main use cases: psychedelic teens, adults who want something for young children, and others who find the visuals beautiful and relaxing, who can use a tone generator, or play alone. Music. The device needs to be plugged into a power source (Type-C) and I believe it's 5V 2A so the iPad charger isn't an iPhone but I'm not sure as I'm using an extension cord with USB connectors have. Including cable from type A to type C, but without connection to the wall for environmental reasons.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Unbelievable price
