Our dog has urinary incontinence problems and used to walk on our bed. Soon the vet recommended medication. During this time we have learned that not all mattress covers are created equal. We first tried Cool Shield which leaked very easily. Second, we tried the LinenSpa Lucid, which was more waterproof but not perfect. It was slightly less breathable. After that failed we got a new mattress and I read hundreds of reviews before buying it over a year ago. SafeRest is breathable and does not leak. First I tested it extensively. I also tried the Beckham which is softer and thinner but slightly less breathable. My only very minor complaint about SafeRest is that it gets dirty pretty easily. Be sure to follow the washing instructions, never use bleach. I'm happy to put up with the fact that it's always a bit dirty, even after washing, because it works so well. None of the ones I tried wrinkled, but some were hotter to sleep on. If this one goes away I'll buy another but spend the extra to get a full zip bag. I've never met one that didn't have at least a few bad reviews and this one is no exception. If you need serious waterproof protection, vinyl is usually your only option. But if you have a brand that breathes and feels good under sheets, be sure to test it for a defective coating. Update: Ordered in 2016 and now 2020. We had a leak through this mattress topper. When I took it off I was sad it leaked but I'm glad 90% of the other things weren't missing. Milk, sweat, etc. still didn't go away. It took a big spill to get through. So after 4 years I would say it's time to replace. Our Beckham Hotel Collection Premium mattress that we bought in 2017 still works. We have 2 so we always have something on our bed and I prefer the Beckham for breathability and protection. However, I think I'll still buy it again as it's easier to put on and take off, especially considering the price.
