Review on πŸ§₯ Columbia Women's X Small Lay Down Jacket - Essential Winter Clothing by Rachel Lopez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Love the coat, fits "my Columbia size "

As the fit seems to be the most commented aspect of this jacket, I'll start with this one. I spent a lot of time reading reviews here and on Columbia's website to find out the sizing. According to Columbia, "The sizing runs a bit small," and people here and there have reported mixed comments about the sizing, mostly tending towards the jacket running small. Well the jacket arrived today and I'm glad I'm the size I usually wear in Columbia tops. I usually go with Wednesday. I can fit in small ones but they are very comfortable without the extra space and overall make me look a bit like a stuffed sausage. The jacket fits quite well, with enough room for a medium weight shirt/sweater and another fitted layer/fleece underneath (an oversized, oversized sweatshirt will not fit). I switched between small and medium and looked at the Columbia size chart. here http://www.columbia.com/womens-lay-%E2%80%98d-down-jacket-WL4047.html#fit as my bust size at 37 was on the high end of the small range/low end of average , 75 inches. My waist is small at 30.5 inches below and my hips are medium at 40.5 inches above. I chose my regular Columbia size and a size medium. Space so the jacket's hips don't stick to my body when I'm wearing leggings, so there should be enough room for pretty much any pants I want to wear, including ski pants. The waist runs a size smaller so the coat doesn't look too messy on my stomach. I like that I don't look like a tall, boxy one. Contrary to some reviews I've seen, the arms aren't tight at all. I don't have very thin arms and in the past I've had problems with arms that are too tight in some shirts and tailored jackets. Now for the rest of the jacket. The mix of Omni warmth and down is just amazing! I literally took it out of the box and put it on right after delivery, wearing only a sports bra. It's only about 36F at the moment so the jacket was pretty cool at first but warmed up to my body heat very, very quickly. I didn't even notice the cold cloth, it warmed up so quickly. I ran outside and walked the dog to see how warm it would be and little did I know there was a lot of bare skin under the coat. The thumb holes are awesome and definitely help when cold air gets up the sleeves. My wrists and hands are very small (wrists are 5.5 inches and I usually wear kids gloves because my fingers are too long on women's shorts) and the flared sleeves weren't very tight, but the thumb holes made a huge difference. I'm usually a big fan of fur trimmings on hoods so I can take them off, and I'll probably only have a hood on my coat if the weather calls for it. The fact that both the hood and fairing can be removed was a huge plus for me. the color is a nice fuchsia, maybe a bit darker than the pictures on the web, but that can only be due to the monitor settings.
