The backpack looked like it was made out of durable waterproof or waterproof material. And the bladder was a hefty 3L. What can go wrong? I unpacked my backpack and cleaned my hydration bladder, slipped my phone and wallet into another (I found) secure case, filled a three-liter bladder about half full with ice-cold water, to prepare for the hike. I slipped the bladder back into the pocket and clipped it in place. Everything seemed to be going well. I noticed water droplets and checked my bladder thinking it was just the cold water. As soon as I went outside to go to my car, my bladder burst and I was soaked. The waterproof bag didn't protect me or my valuables and I ran out of water during the hike.
