Revainrating 5 out of 5

Masseur's FAVORITE self-care tool!

I am a masseuse. Most of my work focuses on clients/patients who need pain relief due to chronic long-term problems, traffic accidents or worker issues. A few years ago I bought 8-10 different sets/styles of "balls" from Revain and others - types/materials/sources - tennis balls, styrofoam balls, 5-6 inch tennis ball like items from pet stores, lacrosse balls, doubles balls, rollers. THESE are without a doubt my favorites and are the most used and "shared" with clients/patients - almost as much as a Sunbeam XL shoulder warmer (I've had FOUR) - (but NOT the one with the massage function - that's a BIG ugh - I you know - I have one!) CARE FOR MYSELF, I use them EVERY day! I've had them for two years now. Now I'm buying a second set for the office. They are wonderful and WOW they stand up to a lot of use! Back, shoulders, neck, subscapular part - buttocks, sacrum. my my my I even hid them under me while I worked on myself. Just a warning. I RECOMMEND keeping them away from puppies. My little savior thought they were equally beautiful for about a nanosecond. My constant screaming kept him from ever choosing her as a toy again! I have to admit, my hub complained a few times when it came across a large and medium sized ball hidden between the pillows in our bed at night, waiting for my next turn. But, hey, they make me move with a lot less pain, so he accepts it now. Serious. I abuse and abuse these things - and they have FULLY survived. And after 2 YEARS they are STILL going strong! I have put in over 1000 hours of continuous training, I have tried the Melt Method courses and in my practice I focus on trigger points and fascial tension issues and WOW this is helping my clients/patients and using these balls is helping me to help myself! Well, while I REALLY know my stuff, so for others. PLEASE use caution when using ANY soft tissue release method. Keep your pain level below 5/10 on each pain scale. Research shows that if you get a score higher than 8/10 you can cause involuntary convulsions, which is no good if you're trying to get her to stop being grumpy. Also, PLEASE don't leave any of the balls in one spot for more than about 5 minutes - don't harm yourself or your great connective tissue and muscle tissue. And if you get bruises, STOP until you've watched a video on how to safely do this type of grooming. BTW, a long gym sock with a small ball tucked inside and then used to rub those crabby spots on your back against the wall is a great way to protect the wall, but an EVEN BETTER way to keep the ball on YOUR to move along grumpy spot without it falling down and bouncing all over the floor. Just throw it over your shoulder. No sock? Use a pillowcase! It also works well for ice packs in odd places. PLEASE. Use heating pads and/or moist heat - after a shower/bath/hot towels - (don't burn yourself!) - to prepare for work, and be sure to stretch and stretch these areas in between - FREQUENTLY AND GENTLE without bouncing . Use moist heat or other heat before stretching. Also, try to figure out if you can CHANGE your daily routine or body mechanics to keep this from happening. For example. Use a shoulder bag. Adjust the height of the monitor. In the car, place a pillow under your arm that is NOT hanging from the steering wheel. Invest in shoes that fit the way you walk/run. If none of the above works, it's kind of crazy that there seem to be no "muscle doctors" right?!? But sorry for the plug on my job BUT I KNOW massage can help and it is an absolutely magical ability to heal. Yes, I am biased. But as much as I take care of myself, I also appreciate the INCREDIBLE benefits I get from OTHER qualified therapists! Did you know that Hippocrates called medicine "the art of rubbing"? If your self-care is NOT helping, please find a locally trained massage therapist and keep trying until you find one who can help and you like. It never ceases to amaze me how often massage helps heal muscles and tissues. I suggest you find a highly rated (verified) therapist in your area while you work on "things". Tools." And I probably use the largest one 80% of the time and the middle one 15% of the time. But that's me. Your experience may be different. I wish you every success in your journey to self-care and may you become have more days and nights without pain.
