Review on Transcend JetFlash Flash Drive TS16GJF790K by Alex Maynard

Several USB 3.0 sticks (description 3.1) were required to install the operating system etc. Bought 2x 16GB and 1x 32GB which arrived overnight. Great, isn't it? Well, in the past I signed up for flash media because I didn't test it when I got it and I walked her through the steps. Note that none of the 3 USB 3.1 as pictured were printed on the cases and the activity LED did not light up on any of them. Garage to any USB port. The main desktop with Win10 couldn't see it in any port nor on my laptop. Well, defects happen, so on to the next one: 16GB #2 - Plugged into the USB 3.1 port on my main Win10 desktop and mounted. Run Check Flash 1.17.0 to verify read/write reliability and correct size. Numerous bugs at once! Reformatted (Fat32) in Windows Explorer and rechecked with no errors. Dodged a bullet there, huh? Not really. Decided to run some tests with Crystal Disk Benchmark to clear my concerns. In multiple tests and settings, reliable "repeatable" speeds could not be achieved. I don't trust that either, so I put it on the Revane return pile. Assuming it's a bad batch of 16GB I expect the last one (32GB) to get me further: 32GB - ok this one tests OOB perfectly as far as integrity goes - cool. However, the lack of LED activity doesn't stop me. I went through all the steps in Crystal Disk Benchmark and was amazed at how slow this thing actually works. Numerous tests with various settings in other ports were not convincing. The USB 2.0 flash drives I have can outperform them. In short, items did not appear to be the same as described/pictured and it is possible that this company has changed manufacturers. Process lately with no LED indicator and no USB 3.1 printed on the case? Thanks to Revane for the painless return. I have had extremely positive experiences with Transcend in the past and am very surprised at the lack of quality control on this order. A total waste of a Sunday afternoon.
