I have used this several times and it works great. You can shorten the plastic tube as I think it is too long. While this item isn't required when changing the oil, it keeps it cleaner and prevents the oil from spilling all over the place when you remove the filter cap. I use this on my son's 2006 GTI. If you are thinking of making your own oil you will need to purchase a filter base as these types of filters are not easy to remove without one.
