Poor manufacturing quality control. I have replaced this lamp and the 6 lamp model for the same reasons. Surface scratches and surface defects in several places on the back. Some scratches/scuffs were worse than others. If you're lucky, you'll end up with one where a scratch or two is barely noticeable, if at all. Otherwise, you are welcome to return it for a refund or an exchange. Instead of returning the light again, I asked Revane for a partial credit. The light itself looks beautiful with high quality frosted swirl pattern domes.
