I needed a light that could be placed under the top of my computer bay to illuminate the desk area. I also wanted it to pivot and be thin enough not to be visible under the support beams that run up front. This lamp was ideal for all tasks. It's very bright, but unfortunately it's a warmer, reddish light that should be good for your eyes but not so good for seeing small objects. If you put it in a place where, say, a 50W incandescent bulb would be too bright, you might want to pay more and get a dimming model. I didn't want to spend too much money on this lamp and this model was in the range I was willing to pay. It comes with a full 115v plug and about 6ft of cord. In addition, the lamp has an OUT section and one foot less cord, allowing you to daisy-chain several of these lamps under a closet. So far I am happy with it and can recommend it.
