I was looking for a good way to replace the missing antique rivets on the fanbase. Initially I used clumsy modern brass nuts and acorn screws, but I've always been disappointed with the look of things. I ordered a couple of aluminum threaded bookbinder rivets from various suppliers hoping to get a good low profile rivet, but nothing worked (length was not easy to change/too long). These short rivets fit perfectly on my 1920s graybar fan. I had to put my hand on the fan parts to line up the rivet threads. Once fixed, the sections pulled together easily. Brass can also be easily blackened with a patina. The finish is nice and clean because the rivets are well finished!
