Review on πŸ“Ά Iogear GWHDMS52: Wireless 5x2 HD Matrix for HD 1080p, 3D Content & 5.1 Channel Audio by Mark Hobbs

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Worked, no problem

While some reviews were mixed, this device solved my problem. short story. Reconstruction of the family room (moving the TV above the fireplace). I didn't want the gear to be visible so all the components went to the laundry (just next door). Everything is above the basement (inside, not outside), so instead of tearing through the walls to run cables, we went down, under, and up into the laundry room. Cable length is just over 30'. I'm a tidy/organizer freak and didn't want the wires to just come out of the wall through a hole, so there were Quickport/Keystone wall panels at each end. I also ran TWO total behind the TV, 2 HDMI, 2 Optical and 2 Ethernet. Long story short, I had an issue with the signal length. The screen will blink intermittently (or more often) depending on the content or the device powering the TV. After several attempts (and purchases) of in-line amps/amplifiers/junction boxes, the only solution that worked was a short red wire at the end of the TV and a 1ft wire from the receiver to the laundry room wall. Then I upgraded my receiver and lost everything (new hardware, cheaper components, less signal). I started researching HDMI wireless systems as a last resort before cutting drywall and driving a shorter straight section. I chose iogear mainly because it sends an uncompressed signal. I wasn't sure if this would work as advertised, so when unpacking I just unpacked each device and power supply (I used my own HDMI cables, I have LOTS of them). This thing worked like a charm. At first I just put it on the mantel to try it out during the day. Later I just sit in front of the TV (it's quite small, so it fits in the back without any problems). I then attached the transmitter box to the wall in the laundry room. For almost a week without any problems. The blocks don't get very hot (a complaint I've read about some others). Another bonus is that if I turn off all my devices, I just leave them on (the last thing I need to do is turn off another device). They turn themselves off after a while. The best bonus is that they turn on again when I turn everything on. A long awaited feature! I can't say anything about that, I haven't unpacked the remote control or the indicators. I already have an IR repeater system installed and all source switching is done through my AV receiver. This thing is literally PLUG AND PLAY!

Pros
  • Integrated 5x2 Matrix: Allows switching and independent selection of one of 5 sources between 2 HDTVs. Cable TV in the living room while watching a Blu-ray movie wirelessly in the bedroom
Cons
  • poorly thought out
