I got tired of slicing chestnuts with a butcher knife so I ordered this tool. That works fine. However, I found it easier to remove the sliced chestnuts from the cutter with my fingers than with the small plastic tool that comes with the tool. The only small issue I had was that I used chestnuts from my trees and found that they weren't dense enough to fully cut small ones, but cut them deep enough that they usually split on their own when roasted.
