Small, rugged, omnidirectional, no batteries required

I bought this Comica omnidirectional microphone to help me create YouTube videos and it's a great tool for many things . First, let's talk about what's in the box. Since the mic doesn't have power (hooray!), it's pretty straightforward - there's a warranty manual, a foam windscreen, and the mic itself in the box. The mic has all-metal construction and feels very solid, with smooth hinge movement and very little play. The 3.5mm jack is gold plated which is a nice touch to prevent corrosion. A foam windscreen is useful for extracting explosives if you're talking fairly close to it, but it's not very thick. I didn't have much of a problem with wind in my testing, but you might think that a small, dead cat would help reduce wind noise if you're recording a lot outdoors (I think one meant for lavaliers would work just fine). In terms of sound, this mic is truly omnidirectional with good pickup from all directions no matter what angle it's placed. In my tests, I couldn't hear much of a difference if I spoke from the front, the side, or the back. That being said, I found the ability to change the angle a bit unnecessary. The quality was definitely better than the built-in mics in my Oneplus 6 and a6500 phones respectively. The a6500 has stereo mics built in and the Comica mic records in mono - which is fine for my use. The quality achieved with it is very good and better than that of the built-in microphones, especially on the Oneplus 6. The sound was noticeably richer and warmer, but since everything was being recorded, other ambient sounds were picked up louder in my ears. . Don't expect results as good as a $200 or $1000 mic, but since it's a very inexpensive mic it's excellent value for money. Another comment on the omnidirectional nature of this mic is that it takes it all! If you need to isolate sound from a specific direction, a directional microphone is a better choice for that purpose. However, if you want to capture sound from all angles to capture the sonic atmosphere of your surroundings, this mic is good for that.
