This is the right option for beginners. I was afraid to try and I was afraid I would end up hurting myself. I have never cut myself. In fact, I think it's a lot safer than multi-blade plastic razors. What I like most about this razor is that it doesn't clog. One blade and it always cleans great. The only criticism is the short handle. I tried the longer Vulcan - it has a longer handle but isn't as comfortable to use. In the end I returned it. If you're hesitant to try one of these razors - I've just been there - it's definitely the right razor to start with - I'm sure you'll love it!
