$85 Reliable Dock

At first, don't be surprised when you feel the weight of this thing. It's heavy (but in a good way) and feels solid. The all-metal construction plus the rubber base (don't forget to remove the plastic cover from the rubber base. See Photo 4) lets this unit stay where you put it. The dual connector (miniDP and USB3) plugs in and stays in place very well so sloppy connections don't keep falling out, and the cable is long enough so you don't have to have a dock right next to your Surface. Everything is easy to install when plugged in, no additional drivers to download. Everything just worked. Video worked well at 2560 x 1080 (LG ultrawide monitor) with the HDMI output. The wired network reached 110 MB/s on my gigabit network with my NAS. Those are the same speeds I'm seeing on my Xeon workstation with Intel Gigabit cards, so the network speed is impressive. The SD card readers also work very well and the USB speeds look good too. Overall I'm very happy with this device and it adds extra flexibility to your Surface without breaking the bank by buying Microsoft branded peripherals. This is the second product I have purchased from this company and both have performed extremely well.
