I used USB-A to USB-C to USB-A to USB 3.1 cables to connect my backup drives to my Mac Connect Book Pro. The adapters worked well enough, but on my MBP they were a bit loose on the USB-C side. Hit something and the connection will be lost. This is particularly annoying and can be disastrous when dealing with external backup drives. With these new USB-C to USB 3.1 cables I don't have this problem at all and they allow me to remove adapters from the mix. However, both connectors on the new cables are very tight, especially on the 3.1 side. When I finally got it I was afraid I had damaged the drive lifter. Once connected everything is fine and the cables work fine but I will be very careful when connecting. Also, I can swear the transfer speeds are much faster with these cables compared to my old setup with adapters. If I had to choose between too loose and too tight, I would end up choosing too tight. Phrase? Are we still phrasing?
