I use a warm setting that delivers a good amount of heat with minimal damage to my hair. (I always buy hair dryers with a warm setting option.) As far as low noise levels go, this item is pretty loud. It has a muted volume that produces a more penetrating sound than the more muted sound of previous hair dryers I've bought. It's like a hair dryer on the subway. So if a quiet hair dryer is your priority, don't buy one.
