Review on πŸ”‡ Fractal Design Silent Series R2 140mm Cooling Fan: Efficient and Quiet Cooling Solution by Chris Morgan

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Quiet and good price, firstly. (See UPDATE)

Quiet, Discreet and Affordable. Moves quite a bit of air and is perfect for my Fractal Define R4. UPDATE June 1st, 2017: I have the Fractal Design Define R4 case. The case comes with two such fans. I bought a third one as my main exhaust fan, thinking it was a good choice. I have a top exhaust fan connected to a case fan controller. At 7V (medium speed) the fan moves almost no air. I can put a napkin on the fan and it stays in place and just levitates a little. At 12V (full throttle) the fan is terribly loud. The other two R2 case fans I have are plugged in and the fan speed is controlled by the motherboard. They spin at 500-600 RPM (1000 RPM max) and move a tiny amount of air compared to the Arctic F14 I installed on the back of the case. Lately I've been noticing a low-pitched rumble/vibration from one of my fans. Of course it was the Fractal R2 that I installed on top of the case. Incidentally, the fan is mounted on rubber screws. I decided to listen carefully to the other two Fractal fans I installed in the case and they make a constant clicking noise. The only way to temporarily eliminate the vibration was to tape a piece of rubber between the fan and the top of the case. TL; DR After a year they start making noise no matter what direction they face. They also don't move much air compared to fans (which are actually quiet) in the same price range.
