This 5 foot daylight fixture replaced an ancient, grotty, failing 7 foot fluorescent shop light. Once I stopped overthinking how I’d hook up and supply power to the new light, I found it was a lot harder to get the old one down and dispose of than install the new light. First, I had no uncomplicated way to feed power other than plugging in into a receptacle, which required splicing using a Western Union splice ( google it-it’s not complicated and very secure), enclosed the splice with heat shrink tubing, and reinforced with electrical tape. I purchased an SPT-2 gauge lamp cord to match the SPT-2 connections supplied with the light kit(SPT-2 refers to the heavier gauge sheathing, compared to thinner SPT-1 - the wires are the same in both). Spliced the hard-wire connection to lamp cord to switched plug-in, et voila, let there be beautiful bright daylight. Yeah, I know you’re saying it sounds complicated, but no close by power source, no wall switch to turn on off, no pull cord. The connection brackets look and feel flimsy, but they audibly snap into a channel along the upper length of the housing, and hold firmly.
