I have two boys. One is 9, shorter and very slim (I order skinny jeans from Gap, and they're still a bit large), one is 12, a bit more muscular, and I order regular jeans for him. The small size put me off, but I took a chance on the style and price. So glad I did! I ordered a size 14 for my oldest son and an 8 for my youngest son. They are pretty loose for my youngest, slim son. It cannot be worn without a belt, and there are no elastic drawstrings as an option. They are quite long now so I might have gone for a smaller size that might fit better. Size 14 is perfect for my big one. they are long but we like the tied up look and they wear out more. They are elastic. So don't let the small size fool you! If anything, let's assume if your kid actually wears slims, these might be too big. I'm still very happy with this purchase as something like this would have cost me 3 times as much somewhere else! We have black and white.
