Review on Active Reduction Premium Aviation Headset by Richard Lamptey

Disappointing performance - you get what you pay for

This headset promised to be a cost-effective way to get ANR. Unfortunately, the device is just "normal", nothing special and not much better than my $120 PNR headset. If you really want ANR and good sound quality then go for the Bose A20 or LightSpeed Zulu 3. I have returned the headset and will be getting a new set of Bose A20s. Pros: 1) The headset is quite comfortable and easy to set up. and feel high quality. 2) ANR works pretty well (but see below) 3) Aux-in is handy 4) Independent volume controls for each headphone: 1) Very low mic sensitivity. You must speak very loudly to activate the VOX intercom. The user guide says you must turn off the intercom squelch for the mic to work, but I found I had to turn it off so much it interfered with other headsets on the intercom (including a Bose A20 and a cheap PNR). . Headset).2) The volume in the ear cups is very low. In order to hear the ATC or intercom, I had to crank up the intercom volume and turn the volume controls on each earphone all the way up. However, this caused other headsets to become too loud (we were able to compensate for this with my son's A20, but the cheap kit has no volume control and is therefore useless.) 3) The sound quality is very poor. ANR cuts low frequencies well, but not so much at high frequencies. Worse still, the music played to the headset via the aux input is a total mess; All bass and most mids are cut off so the music sounds like it's coming from a cheap AM radio. I suspect the problem is that the ANR only has built-in mics, no external ones. This was a big problem when wearing sunglasses. I ordered the gel earpads as recommended by some reviewers but never used them due to the other issues listed here. her or flew alone. The Bose is about three times more expensive than the Faro, but the A20's features and sound quality make up for the wallet pain. So I recommend sticking with your cheap PNR headset until you can afford the Bose A20s.
