I have an artesian well on property that puts out about 7 gpm but only about 4 to 6 psi. 4-6 psi is enough to flush toilets and wash hands with unfiltered water, but not enough to run a shower or pump any real volume of water through a 4-stage filtration system (my filtration system consists of 4 separate 200- micron blocks -> 50 Β΅m -> 30 Β΅m -> 5 Β΅m filter). A traditional fountain pump costs about $6,000 to install and I will lose the ability to use the fountain without a pump. So I decided to take a chance with this little pump ($79 at the time of purchase) to see if it was enough to get the pressure to the right level. The short answer is YES IT IS! Quick comment: This looks like an RV pump, which I've installed/run several of over the years, but this one runs way harder than any I've worked with, so give it a thumbs up. Installation Details: I used 1/2" PEX tubing for my water system and Home Depot's simple 1/2" NPT adapters made this pump easy to connect to this system. I read that these are STRAIGHT threads so I was pretty generous with sanitary/Teflon tape. Everything fitted together easily, no leaks, no problems. I installed it with a matching Surflo/Pentair storage tank (essentially a super small hydraulic accumulator) and a couple of strategically placed pressure gauges so I could monitor the system. I also installed some valves so I could switch between pump pressure and artesian pressure and also allowed myself to isolate the pump/filter system to work with. This setup worked well, but with the tiny pressure tank, the pump kept running (obviously) every time we used the water for more than a few seconds, which was annoying. Otherwise, I was so happy with the setup that I threw in $150 at HomeDepot for a 20-gallon WaterWorks pressure tank and it totally worked. With a larger pressure tank, the pump will only turn on after the tap has been running for about 2 minutes (a long time). $6,000, the pump guy quoted me! And if the power goes out (that happens sometimes, I'm in a very rural area) I can flip a few valves and still use artesian pressure to flush the toilet/wash hands/etc. starts at 19psi and shuts off at 40psi. 19psi on the bottom was still lower than I found comfortable, so I turned the adjustment screw until it started at 28psi and started at 50psi. It's good enough for my use and 50psi is already above the manufacturer's stated spec, so I haven't tried setting it higher. Volume notes: The specs say this is around 3 GPM, which seems correct. If I watch the pressure gauge on the unpressurized side of the line while the pump is running, it doesn't quite drop to 0 psi, but only drops to about 1 psi (with some needle pop), indicating there is still pressure that it could absorb more water if he squeezed faster. As I mentioned above, the fountain itself produces about 7 GPM, so the pump doesn't exceed the fountain's capacity, it just adds pressure, which is what I wanted. Cons: The only downside is that this thing is louder than you really want it to be. right next to you in your house (exactly where mine is because that's where the plumbing goes). Don't get me wrong, it's certainly quieter than a jet pump system, but still louder than "quiet". I mounted it on the wall which doesn't help as the slight vibration of the pump causes the wall plate to vibrate a bit which amplifies the noise. So in my 3rd iteration of the install (I'll probably do it this weekend) I'm going to drill some holes in the concrete floor and bolt a pump to it to isolate it so the only sound is the sound. pump noise. Oh, I should also mention that this pump works very cool, which surprised me. The docs say it can get pretty hot, but even running for minutes barely gets warm. Not sure how long/hard you have to run it to cause problems, but definitely a lot longer/harder than mine (probably the longest run was around 5 minutes). All in all I really like this pump. - this saved me about $5700 and does everything I want. Thumbs up!
