Review on Emerson Quiet Kool 5,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner – Efficient Cooling with Mechanical Rotary Controls by Stephen Mitchell

This is a cheap no frills air conditioner. Exactly what I needed for my living room. We only use the AC occasionally and don't usually go into the living room when it gets really hot, but we've recently started using it as a gym so we needed something cheap. Well packaged and arrived undamaged. The instructions were ok but really a bit vague on the actual install regarding the different window designs. No mention of installing in a vinyl window. Everything went according to plan until the final assembly of the unit. I have installed 20 different AC units in 7 different homes and over a dozen different window styles so I know how to install an AC unit. This one blew my mind. The bottom support brackets that allow window rails to be installed are 1.5" tall (window rail arms are 3/4" tall). The sill on my window is 1 inch thick (one of the thickest I've seen). So even if you cut the board so the block is level with the sash, it's still half an inch ABOVE the sill! The brackets are welded in place so a resurrection is not an option. To be honest, I've never seen such an idiotic design. I'm surprised so many people just don't give up and send it back. I'm stubborn and I made it this year. Next year I will be redesigning the bottom solid panel to better seal the bottom of the unit and not have to cram half the pool noodle under the air conditioner. 2 stars deducted for bad design - too bad because everything else is first class for such a cheap device.
