The chair has a slightly odd design but is more comfortable than it looks. You have to snuggle up to it, otherwise the hard back can get on your nerves; but when seated it supports the back well. The main reason for the poor rating is the overall quality of the seat, mainly the support springs under the seat. Personally, I only weigh 162 pounds, but the springs popped, squeaked, and groaned the first time I sat in them. If this happens after a year of use I would understand, but not from a brand new chair. I checked the mounting screws and they were well secured. This is a chair I wanted to sit in for hours, but honestly I felt I couldn't trust it and returned it.
