I wore the Venture 5 for about 2 years before I got the Venture 6 and wore it all the time for everything but the rare formal occasion. Before that I wore Asics Enduro shoes for another 6 years. I mean I'm used to wearing Asics trail running shoes for everything and before the Venture 6 they were comfortable and suitable for all activities. However, Venture 6 brings big changes from 5 - enough changes that I think they should have just released it as a new product and not an update to Venture. I didn't look closely at the pictures when purchasing because I thought they were the same as the 5 with a few minor cosmetic changes, but there are some major changes to the shoes. Above all, the tread pattern is completely new. The 6 has a much lower, more aggressive profile and stiffer outsole that may be better suited for trail running, but other than that they just get in the way. There are far fewer opportunities to feel the pedals while driving, and the tread actually hangs off the pedal at times when maneuvering to park. In my picture the Venture 6 is on the left and the Venture 5 on the right for comparison. I also changed the lacing. All Asics shoes I've owned in the past have had the top eyelet below the line of other eyelets, and I've never used the last pair of eyelets to lace up a shoe. The shoes always sit securely in any activity, and they are also perfect for long-distance runs. This changed with the Venture 6. All of the cleats appear to have moved slightly forward on the shoe, with the last set being moved up in line with the other cleats rather than below their line. As always, I tried the shoes without that final eyelet (as delivered in the box and shown in the product photos) and they were incredibly loose. I had to lace up to the last loop - not really a big deal just a big difference as I've always worn these Asics shoes. There also seems to be slightly more room in the toe box - slightly longer than the Venture 5. Same size and slightly more vertical space inside. On top of that, they are even uncomfortable when you have them on your feet for a long time. I have yet to run in them (and am a bit hesitant to do so at the moment), but for everyday use they are less comfortable than other shoes I've worn, including the Venture 5. Overall, they might actually be better for running with outsoles -/Profile changes although I don't know if my feet will be able to cover a significant distance in it as they are less comfortable than the 5. The problem is that Asics released this as a venture update when it did was intended to be released as a new product line given the scale of the change and they took an everyday shoe and made it more specialized and non-everyday. Although Asics is marketed as a trail running shoe, Asics needs to understand that their customers are using the shoe for other purposes, and an updated version of a product like this from the Venture 5 to the Venture 6 should retain more of the previous generation's features. . I'll probably try and get another pair of Venture 5s to replace these if I can still get them before they're all gone.
