Worked great on my 2017 F350 Superduty - some helpful tips on installing the aluminum platform

The on site installer warned this would not work on my truck. Another buyer said he would. The plugs looked right so I gave it a try. The plugs fit perfectly. I used a 2-1/8" hole saw because I've seen comments from other installers about plugs not going through a 2" hole (as the instructions state). They easily walked into a big hole for me. I didn't trust the supplied screws for my aluminum bed. I like the aluminum body, but the instructions are 2008 (pre-aluminum) and I think we need a little more support on the back to make things work better. I got some 1.5" stainless steel cap screws and connected them with zinc plated nylock nuts (which don't come loose on their own). I drilled holes big enough for the screws to easily pass through and placed the included spacer plate on the back of the metal (inside the wing) as the base plate - the smooth side of the base plate shows where the nut will sit. My wife inserted screws from the front, I attached the assembly from the back. and started nuts. I then put a socket wrench on each nut and my wife used a drill with a socket to fully seat the bolts. This modified setup is RELIABLE, perfect, and uses a part that you would otherwise just throw in the trash. I dropped the spare tire and draped an extra cable over the top of the support structure for the mechanism that raises and lowers the spare tire and attached it to various parts of the frame with zip ties. The sealed connection to the fork stem is a BIG plus for me. Troubleshooting a corroded joint in a wing would be agony. The sealing rules out corrosion. I am very comfortable.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Slightly dented
