Review on Yost Heavy Duty Drill Press: Powerhouse Performance for Precision Drilling by Allan Lambert

Sent back the first vise because the paint was bad. The replacement vise that I received quickly is good. A few things to watch out for. On my vise, the nut on the platen adjustment set screw was located under the moving jaw across the bottom of the vise. The vise wobbled as I placed it on the drill press table. It should have had a thinner lock nut. I removed the nut and the pressure from the adjacent bolts prevented the set screw from moving. The movable cheek piece protrudes below and beyond the screwed cheek piece. You can't install anything that would fit in a vise and lower it onto the table of a drill press. Another thing is the screw that holds the end of the trapezoidal screw in the slide jaw. The manufacturer tried to countersink the threaded hole for the pan head screw nicely, but ended up putting the pan head screw in a hole that was too long to fit the countersink. I shortened the screw just enough to screw it firmly into the countersink and rotated the screw with the trapezoidal screwdriver. Now it looks like I'm sure that's what the designer intended. Aside from these issues, a good vise for the money. A nice feature are the V-grooves in the fixed jaw. I clamped the rod in a horizontal groove and it is parallel to the base of the vise to within thousandths without adjustment. The spherical end handle is heavier and more comfortable for me than the folding handles on the cheaper vise. I would give 5 stars if the quality control was better and I didn't have to return the first vise and had no nut and bolt problems with the second.
