My husband's great grandfather passed this chair down from generation to generation and it looks like this (see stripes in photo). We didn't trust anyone to reupholster or repair, and we certainly didn't charge the $800 to $1,500 to do it. I read a number of reviews and decided to take a chance. It still looks like a covered chair, but it looks a thousand times better than before. As the original fabric is so dark I probably should have ordered 2 covers to get a lighter look. We're struggling to get it right (and of course we still have some tugging and tucking to do), but the end result looks pretty damn good. The fabric is soft and slightly textured, which we really like. We can always order a second one to hide the dark original fabric so it doesn't show through.
