Review on πŸ”‘ Bronze Door Hinges with Rubbed Finish by Aaron Schultz

Revainrating 2 out of 5

The pin is VERY difficult to remove.

Moved into a house with old 70's hinges and handles that didn't match the updated plumbing. It was a good price for the quantity I needed and they matched the handles. Pros: Oiled bronze looks good. The thickness is perfect and overall they look great once installed. I also like that they send you two screws of different sizes. Minus: only one thing, but it is important. It's almost impossible to remove the pin without damaging the head and potentially scratching the hinge. I've tried several things. WD-40, penetrating oil, hot water, various tools. Eventually I just let them soak up the penetrating oil and then used large wire cutters to pry it out. Why the wire cutters you ask...because I could tuck the thin edge under the head of the pen. When it came out a little, I switched to pliers. I had to work with him while pulling. But as soon as I took it off there was a crazy sticky substance on the needle. He stuck to everything! I put it on paper and then had to scrape off the paper. Next comes a plastic bag. It was also sticky but came off easier. I then soaked the needle in mineral spirits and wiped away the strange, tar-like substance. It took me at least 15-20 minutes to clean one loop. In the first case, I did a lot of cosmetic damage to the pinhead, but the last one was only slightly damaged. If the loops were more visible I would probably bring them back. But luckily, some of my doors only had two hinges, so I had extra ones. If you live in an open state like Texas or Florida I would skip them. But if you have time because there is nothing to do in the blue hell state thanks to Covid, and you have time to fight 18 loops to get the needle out, clean it with a flammable, toxic chemical (good thing we all have masks ) and finally smear them before starting the fight and actually hang the door, this is for you! Don't forget disposable gloves!

Pros
  • Each hinge is individually wrapped in a plastic bag to keep its finish undamaged unlike others.
Cons
  • Crumpled
