I love this product. Provides a good glow, slight flicker (explained later), glass appears thick, burns long. The height of the holder allows for easy access and you don't have to figure out how to put the globe down. /o is a tip. - Use a barbecue or fireplace lighter. If you have longer models, you need something long to light them. - Start with a short wick. If you are new to oil lamps and candles, the shorter the wick, the smaller the flame. I tried the wick at the height they showed in the picture and my flame was about 4 inches high and popped about 1 inch over the edge. Start with a burr just big enough to stretch the strings. Light it up, watch for 30 seconds. For a small one: blow out, wait a minute for it to cool, pull the wick up a bit. For me, a 1/8" wick gave me 1" of flame and a 3/16" wick gave me 2-3" of flame and more flicker. - Use the right oil. I'm not an oil snob, but the included fuel burns clean, odorless, and lasts a long time. - Recording in real time. The instructions say it can burn for so long. Here's some simple math. 1/4 of the globe burns in 5-6 hours. The height of your wick changes this. Longer wick, bigger flame, more oil burn. - Cleaning is easy. Even clean burning oil slag can form a film on the glass. Simply wipe the inside of the glass and lay it down with a damp paper towel or cloth. I do the same with my gas fireplace to reduce the need for professional cleaning. - Add color. I will also review an oil paint set that you can purchase for this. The teaser worked well and is a great way to add color and your personal touch.
